Randall Stremmel is the founder of Brixx Technology and a recognized innovator in the beneficial reuse of coal combustion residuals (CCR) and other regulated industrial by-products. His work focuses on developing patented material systems that transform previously landfilled or stockpiled CCR into durable, value-added construction materials through engineered mineral transformation.
Mr. Stremmel has led the development and commercialization of multiple CCR-focused patents on converting fly ash and related aluminosilicate residues into structural products, aggregates, and building components. His intellectual property portfolio addresses both technical performance and regulatory compliance, with methods designed to stabilize trace elements and produce materials suitable for civil and structural applications. These technologies have been validated through laboratory testing, demonstration-scale production, and permitting processes aligned with EPA and state regulatory frameworks.
Under his leadership, Brixx Technology obtained one of the first permits in Ohio to remove and beneficially reuse previously landfilled CCR, enabling the recovery of material from legacy disposal sites and its conversion into commercial construction products. This work included developing and operating an industrial-scale Brixx manufacturing facility, demonstrating a scalable pathway for transforming CCR from a long-term liability into a domestic material resource.
Building on its CCR foundation, Brixx is developing patented extensions that incorporate slag, metal fines, and other industrial by-products, and integrate mineral-based CO₂ sequestration techniques into structural materials. These advances position CCR not just as a construction feedstock but as a platform for carbon utilization and long-term material stabilization.
